Maternity Coaching FAQs
Answers to the questions we’re asked most often about maternity coaching and returning to work.

About maternity coaching
What exactly is maternity coaching?
It is a targeted professional development tool that helps individuals manage the logistical and emotional shifts of becoming a working parent while maintaining career momentum and personal resilience. You may also hear it called parental leave coaching. At My Maternity Coach we specialise in maternity, and we support line managers too, so the return works for the whole team.
How does it benefit my specific career path?
Coaching restores professional identity, helps establish sustainable boundaries between work and home, and provides practical tools to navigate return to work conversations with leadership.
When is the best time to start sessions?
Many clients begin halfway through their third trimester to plan their transition, but support is equally valuable during leave or in those important first months back at work.
How much does maternity coaching cost?
Our coaching packages start from £1,375, and small business rates are available. Every organisation is different, so please get in touch and we’ll put together a quote that suits your team and budget.
Can my employer fund the coaching?
Absolutely. Forward thinking companies often sponsor our programmes as part of their talent retention and diversity strategies. We can provide documentation to help you present the case to HR.

How do we schedule team clinics?
Clinics are scheduled in half day or full day blocks. We coordinate directly with your HR lead to provide a booking link for employees, making it a seamless experience for your staff.
What is the typical lead time for advisory?
We recommend reaching out at least four weeks before your desired start date. This allows us to carry out an initial review of your current maternity culture and tailor the approach accordingly.
How is maternity coaching different from our EAP?
An Employee Assistance Programme is a general wellbeing helpline, while maternity coaching is planned, one to one support built around the return to work. Sessions focus on confidence, boundaries, career goals and the practical side of coming back, and they run alongside your existing wellbeing support.
Do you train line managers?
Yes. Managers often want to get maternity right but worry about saying the wrong thing. Our manager sessions and Maternity Transition Toolkit cover keeping in touch days, the conversations to have before and after leave, and how to plan a smooth return.
Is the coaching confidential?
Yes. What your employee shares in their sessions stays between them and their coach. We agree with the employer at the start what will be reported back, which is usually attendance and general themes rather than anything personal.
For women returning to work
Can I pay for coaching personally?
Yes. While many of our clients are sponsored by their employers, we offer individual payment plans for those seeking private coaching to support their professional transition.
Where do the sessions take place?
We’re based in Bristol and work with organisations across the UK. Most sessions are held virtually via secure video link, offering flexibility for parents. We also provide on site clinics for our corporate partners across the UK by arrangement.
